Indiana Regulations on Wild and Exotic Felines Division of Fish and Wildlife State Web Site: http://www.state.in.us/ Short Summary: Issues Wild Animal Possession Permits. Permits are for one year only, must be renewed annually. Class III is for wild cats. Bobcats are native endangered species, but may be legally possessed with proof of legal captive birth paperwork. Must provide health certificate for animal being possessed, escape recapture plan, pay $10.00 fee, have cages inspected by conservation officer. Provides caging requirements - concrete floors must be covered with natural substrate, loafing platforms, 14 foot tall walls with 45 degree incline can be used if no roof provided, etc. Persons licensed by the USDA as commercial exhibitors, zoos or dealers are exempted from this state permit and it's requirements.
ALERT INDIANA: Technical Rule Changes: Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish, Special Licenses and Permits. Proposed by DNR. Simplifies and clarifies laws. Requires a vet exam within 45 days of getting a wild animal permit. Adds definition of Class I, Class II, and Class III animals. Class I are not a threat to public safety, Class II may pose a threat to public safety, Class III present a real or potential threat to public safety.
Status: Had a public hearing on March 30, 2010. Public comments were due on April 5, 2010. Will be considered for final adoption during May 18, 2010 meeting.

INDIANA: Proposed Rule: Exotic Mammal, Cervid Breeder License, Wild Hogs. Proposed by DNR. Will allow the taking of exotic mammals listed if they escape and are seen as an immediate threat to public safety. Clarifies rules for keeping exotic cats, wolves, bears, and cervidae. Adds rules for wild hogs.
Status: Public comment period still open.
